Point of View #10: Joy

Welcome to a new gallery of One Step "Before and After" photos. The new photos were donated by "Joy," who wanted you to see an example of a prophylactic One Step NON-nipple sparing surgery. Joy first emailed me five months ago, when she had just had her very first surgical consult. At that time, before even being sure of which technique she'd be choosing, she told me she would be sharing her photos with my readers. She said she felt that knowledge is power, and that no matter what her outcome would be, it would be good information to be had by others. She said it felt good to be able to take more control of her health by having this lucky opportunity in bilateral prophylactic mastectomy.

Sure enough, three months later, Joy was 21 days post-op and sending me her photos. She really wanted to help other women in a similar situation -- those women who want BPM but also want to go to a smaller size breast. Joy is a determined lady who knew from the beginning that she wanted to give other women what she had been searching for herself -- a chance to view a BPM with breast size reduction and nipple removal. Thanks Joy for your generosity, your follow-through, and for recognizing the importance of women's expectations and how important a role photo-sharing plays in those. Joy just "got it" from the beginning and didn't mess around!

Joy lives in the suburbs of Chicago and had her prophylactic mastectomies performed by Dr. D. J. Winchester and her One Step reconstruction performed by Dr. Geoffrey Fenner on April 9, 2010 at Evanston Hospital. Before her surgery, Joy was a 34DD, so she opted to have breast reduction during her reconstruction. She chose a 425 cc Mentor smooth, round, moderate plus profile gel implant, and is now a C cup. Her 26 photos start with her most recent photos at 28 days post-op, and progress backward in time all the way back to her pre-surgery breasts, so don't miss out on the 2nd or 3rd pages of photos. Read the captions beneath each photo for more details of her experience, and if you have any questions for Joy, you can either leave them here by posting a comment below, or you may email me with your comments/questions and I can pass them on to Joy. 1. Thank you Rebecca, for your description of me (blushing).
I have to say, you helped get me to where I am today. Your photos, videos and funny comments helped me to realize that having BPM is not "the end of the world". Life goes on.
Thank you Rebecca, for all of your help!
